Description

Visit the Mosque and the Synagogue, the jewels of Cordoba.

The Jewish Quarter of Cordoba is one of the most charming and special environments in the city of the three cultures, a place where time seems to have stopped, with a history that goes back to the beginning of the last millennium. Narrow streets, adapted to the high temperatures of the city, and buildings as important as the Synagogue of Cordoba, one of the three purest synagogues that still remain in Spain; the Chapel of San Bartolomé, a masterpiece of Mudejar Art, the local souk, a place known for its filigree workshops Cordoba, the sculpture of Averroes, Seneca, the wall of Cordoba or the sculpture of Maimonides.

Afterwards, we will visit the Mosque-Cathedral, starting with the Patio de los Naranjos and then going inside this temple, which brings together parts of the mosque of Abd al Rahman I, along with its extensions, and reaches the Christian cathedral of the sixteenth century. Absolutely a must-see, as the history of Cordoba, Al-Andalus and Christian Spain are written on its heavy blocks of stone and materials reused from classical and Visigothic times, making it the last monument of the classical era.

The Mosque constitutes a monumental ensemble declared Human World Heritage by the UNESCO in the year 1984. Considered one of the most relevant elements of the Andalusian architecture, it is the most emblematic of Hispano-Muslim Umayyad art. This mosque, which had the capacity to house up to 30,000 parishioners, was also the second largest mosque in the world, after the mosque of Mecca.
