Description

Visit the Mosque and the Synagogue, the jewels of Cordoba.

The Jewish Quarter of Cordoba is one of the most charming and special environments in the city of the three cultures, a place where time seems to have stopped, with a history that goes back to the beginning of the last millennium. Narrow streets that adapt to the high temperatures of the city and buildings as important as the Synagogue of Cordoba, one of the three purest remaining in Spain; the Chapel of San Bartolomé, a masterpiece of Mudejar Art, the local Zoco, a place known for its Cordoba filigree workshops, the sculpture of Averroes, Seneca, the wall of Cordoba or the sculpture of Maimonides.

Then we will visit the mosque, starting with the Patio de los Naranjos to then move on to the interior of a temple that brings together parts of the mosque of Abd al Rahman I, along with its extensions, to the 16th century Christian cathedral. A visit that is more than recommended, since the history of Cordoba, Al-Andalus and Christian Spain is written on its heavy stone blocks and reused materials from classical and Visigothic times, making it the last monument of the classical world.

The Mosque is a monumental complex declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1984. It is considered one of the most relevant elements of Andalusian architecture and is the most emblematic of Hispano-Muslim Omeyan art. This mosque, which had the capacity to accommodate up to 30,000 worshippers, was also the second largest mosque in the world, after the Mosque of Mecca.

Mosque of Cordoba and the Synagogue: Entrance Tickets

The synagogue of Cordoba is one of the most emblematic monuments of the city. Thanks to its luck, it retains the vestiges of the greatness it enjoyed after the Christian Reconquest. A visit to the synagogue and the mosque-cathedral, the most impressive forest of columns that you could ever see, will make you understand the cultural differences that history has brought together in just a few metres.

With your ticket you will have preferential access to the mosque, the best option to avoid long lines formed at the ticket offices and security controls, allowing you to save time while enjoying your visit. Furthermore, during your tour you will be accompanied by a specialist guide who will introduce you to the history that surrounds the city. You will get to know the mysterious corners of each one of them and you will get closer to the most important cultural environment in the West.
