The icon of Seville, essential

The Cathedral of Seville is one of the most important landmarks that you can discover during your visit to the city. It is the largest building of all the Gothic architecture and one of the most important in Christianity. Its exceptional history will make you discover how the Bell Tower, known as the Giralda because of its weathervane shaped top, was actually a tower that called for prayer in the old Great Mosque of the city. The last one is one of the most imposing reflections of the Islamic footprint in the city, where you will climb up to 104 meters high. And you will also discover the decoration in plaster that decorates the beautiful windows of the first body of the tower and that you will be able to find in other monuments of the city. Inside the Cathedral we have a courtyard that belonged to the old mosque. Here you can enjoy the water and the smell of orange flowers that bloom in spring from the beautiful orange trees. A paradisiacal place that will make you enjoy the Islamic splendor. The Cathedral is the base of what was the Great Mosque, on which a great volume has developed in size and height that was the response to the Christian Reconquest and the historical significance of the city.

The great local, national and international artists saw in this monument the opportunity to work on the interrupted works of art that they ordered. These great masters have given the Cathedral of Seville a rich treasure that covers all artistic manifestations, from weaving to stained glass, painting, sculpture, altarpieces, reliefs, watchmaking, gold and silver work, and a long list of others. The importance that the Cathedral obtained is reflected in the very important bone remains that are preserved for the history of Spain and the World, such as those of the Conquistador King Fernando III, known as 'The Saint', or those of Christopher Columbus. The majesty of the Cathedral of Seville breaks the landscape of Seville and the world, as it was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1987.
