In Ronda you can enjoy a journey through monuments and nature, bullfighters and bandits, but above all a charm that you will not miss. We offer you a Free Tour through its alleys so that you don’t leave without seeing the impressive Tajo gorge, the history of Ronda and its legends. We will wait for you at the church of Nuestra Señora de la Merced, from where we will start our route along the Paseo de Ernest Hemingway to the impressive New Bridge to get the spectacular views of the Tajo de Ronda and its hanging balconies as an emblem of the city, located in a gorge with more than 150 meters deep. From the landscape you can also see the mountains that bathe the horizon, the Serranía de Ronda. From the bridge we can see a gorge more than 100 metres deep over the river Guadalevín, being this the point of union between the historical area and the new city.
We will discover stately houses in Calle Tenorio, such as the Casa Don Bosco, as well as entering the Plaza de María Auxiliadora, where we will find the viewpoint El Campillo.
With this tour you will get to know the essential places of the city, visiting the historic centre, its most emblematic monuments, the remains of the Celts, Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs. We will visit the most significant civil monument of Ronda, the Palace of Mondragón. We will also see the Palace of the Moorish King, the Fountain of the Eight Spouts, the Church of Padre Jesús, the Arab Baths, the Palace of Salvatierra, the Minaret of San Sebastián, the Church of Santa María la Mayor, and many more.
We will discover the impressive monument-sculpture of the Lidia bull next to the Plaza de Toros (Bullring). Ronda is known for being the first bullring in Spain and for transforming bullfighting from a leisure activity into a profession. For this reason, we will constantly see sculptures reminiscent of the world of bullfighting, such as the tributes to Antonio Ordoñez, Cayetano Ordoñez and Pedro Romero. But these are not the only characters you will find here, as well as singers such as Aniya la Gitana, or travellers who were surprised by the richness of Ronda. You will get to know the character of the city through the pillaging, robbery and rebellion that these lands have suffered since Roman times through the bandits.
All this and much more will bring you closer to the heart of a city unique for its natural features and the history behind it. We are waiting for you!
