Description

Flowers, culture and tradition, unique in Córdoba.

Cordoba's courtyards are one of the symbols of the city and the tradition of maintaining and caring for them has been transferred from generation to generation. In this visit you will be surprised by the walls full of pots and climbing plants. The windows with their wrought iron gratings allow you to see the flowery world of Cordoba's streets from the outside. The origin of these types of houses can be found in the Roman influences, which passed through the Christian remodelling, and which has coexisted until our days.

These beautiful corners are made endless by the numerous and well cared for streets of the city. The Cordoba's house is the maximum domestic expression of the culture and the tradition of the city, the patios in their interior are a sample of the mime and taste that during the whole year make conserve their owners.

This formidable cultural display of the Cordoba people in their homes is the result of the massive arrival of people from the countryside who moved drastically to the city after the Industrial Revolution. The reduced spaces shared with other neighbors, originated that the common areas, like the patio, were filled with a rich coloring coming from the vegetable decoration. The great variety of plants would begin to invade each space of these courtyards, turning them into the memory of the paradisiacal gardens inherited from the Islamic culture.

With your visit you will find a story behind each patio, its inhabitants and their ancestors, and a whole vegetable tour for the botany lover. Let yourself be surprised by the confluence of the senses of this tradition that has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2012.
