Description

The free tour of Cadiz

Join our Free Tour in Cadiz and discover the oldest city in the West. Its Phoenician, Roman, Muslim and Christian origins have made it a city with a long history of historical events that we would like you to be part of.

We will start in the Plaza de San Juan de Dios, an emblematic place of the city, located next to the Town Hall. We will continue through the Plaza de la Catedral, where we will find one of the most important monuments of Cadiz, the Cathedral of Santa Cruz sobre las Aguas, a spectacular building from the 18th and 19th centuries, where baroque and neoclassical styles are combined. A few steps from the Cathedral is the Plaza de las Flores, one of the most colourful and busiest squares in the city, famous for its flower shops.

Afterwards, we will visit the Mercado de Abastos, where you can enjoy a wide variety of fresh produce. Next, we will walk along the most important street of Cádiz, the Calle Ancha, where you will find elegant buildings and some of the main commercial shops.

Finally, we will go to the La Viña neighbourhood, a seafaring neighbourhood, whose name is related to its past as a vine-growing area, and where one of the most important buildings of the Carnival of Cádiz, the Teatro de Falla, with its striking red brick façade, is currently located.

We finish our Free Tour Cadiz at the most popular beach in the city, the Caleta beach, framed by the Castles of San Sebastian and Santa Catalina. From here, we will remember that natural harbour where Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman ships anchored. It has also been and still is a source of inspiration for musicians and poets.
