Description

Visit the Mosque and the Synagogue, the jewels of Cordoba

The Jewish Quarter of Cordoba is one of the most charming and special places in the city of the three cultures, a place where time seems to have stood still, with a history that dates back to the beginning of the last millennium. Narrow streets that adapt to the high temperatures of the city and buildings as important as the Synagogue of Cordoba, one of the three purest still remaining in Spain; the Chapel of San Bartolomé, a masterpiece of Mudejar Art, the local Souk, a place known for its filigree workshops, the sculpture of Averroes, Seneca, the wall of Cordoba or the sculpture of Maimonides.

We will then visit the Mosque, starting with the Patio de los Naranjos and then move on to the interior of a temple that combines parts of the mosque of Abd al Rahman I, together with its extensions, and which reaches the Christian cathedral of the 16th century. A visit is highly recommended, as the history of Cordoba, Al-Andalus and Christian Spain is written in its heavy ashlars and reused materials from classical and Visigothic times, making it the last monument of the classical world.

The Mosque is a monumental complex declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984. It is considered one of the most important elements of Andalusian architecture and is the most emblematic of Hispano-Muslim Umayyad art. This mosque, which had the capacity to hold up to 30,000 worshippers, was also the second largest mosque in the world, after the mosque in Mecca.

Tickets to the Mosque of Cordoba and the Synagogue

The Cordoba Synagogue is one of the city’s most emblematic monuments. Its good fortune has meant that it has preserved the vestiges of the grandeur it enjoyed after the Christian Reconquest. A visit to the Synagogue and the Mosque-Cathedral, the most impressive forest of columns you have ever seen, will make you understand the cultural differences that history has brought together in just a few metres.

With your ticket, you’ll avoid the long queues at the ticket office, saving you time while you enjoy your visit. You’ll also be accompanied throughout the tour by a specialist guide who will take you through the history surrounding the city. You will get to know the mysterious corners of each one of them and you will get closer to the most important cultural environment of the West.

Add the tour of the interior of the Alcazar of the Christian Kings and its gardens and complete your visit to the city.
