Cordoba has not only been home to the great writers of all periods of history, but has also seen the birth and growth of some of the most brilliant names in Spanish and universal literature. The city has been the protagonist of novels and poems, and some of the most famous episodes of our common history have been written in it. Cordoba’s streets are dotted with places that have seen the birth of literary figures who have been the setting for magnificent novels, and which have seen the growth of some of the most important artistic movements of the 20th century.

From Ibn Zaydun to Garcilaso, from Wallada to José Luis Amaro, Cordoba has been home to some of the best-known literary figures, with the epicentre at the tomb of Góngora himself inside its Cathedral, the former Umayyad mosque. Pio Baroja, Antonio Gala, Leonor López (the first known female biography), the first woman to obtain a doctorate degree in Spain. José Luis Amaro, Julio Aumente, José García Obrero and Concha Lagos take us through a Cordoba that, under their brilliant writers, goes from ancient Rome to the present day, passing through an unequalled Middle Ages at all levels.

From the historic quarter (the largest recognised by UNESCO) to the nerve centre of the city today, Cordoba offers us a whole list of anecdotes, tales, poems and stories that will not only appeal to fans of the genre, but to any lover of history and universal literature, surrounded by settings that would in turn mark the evolution of history, both for the city and for the whole of the West.
