Located next to the banks of the Guadalquivir, the Alcazar of the Christian Kings is one of the most spectacular monuments in Cordoba. It is a fortification on whose walls is written the development of the city, but also the destiny of the kingdoms and cultures that had the Iberian Peninsula as their home. Inside, the vestiges present here take us from the Roman period to the times of the Holy Inquisition. It was in this Alcazar that some of the most significant moments in our history took place, illustrious kings such as Alfonso XI and the Catholic Kings, Christopher Columbus changed the course of history.
Roman port, Visigoth residence, Islamic Alcazar, Christian fortress, Inquisitorial prison… The building was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1931. Inside, you will find archaeological remains, labyrinthine corridors that tell of its prison period, palatial rooms, towers, baths that are unlike anything you have ever seen before and impressive gardens where flowers and their perfumes mingle and dance with the water of the fountains. An ensemble that invites you to uncover the secrets, conspiracies and memories of the great characters who lived within its walls.

¡Muchas gracias!

The tour was well-organised, with friendly staff available to point you in the right direction and headsets provided to help hear the tour guide in a bustling noisy crowd. Our guide was very kind and attentive. I really liked the Roman depictions of the Greek myths and the gardens modelled on Islamic design principles. Given that the Alcazar does not have as much in the way of artefacts as other monuments, it is definitely worth taking a tour like this to learn more about it's history.

The guide was wonderful. You could hear the love of the history of Córdoba. I think without her we would have missed so much of the history of Cordoba Alcazar.
