The vestige of Seville’s past can be found with a tour designed for the most exquisite tastes. The Alcázar of Seville is one of the main civil buildings of the capital since the Muslim princes who built it, until the Christian kings who were in charge of preserving it during the Reconquest. They were perplexed by its sinuous forms inherited from the Muslim culture, so we want to introduce you to the story of this history and let you be seduced by the rich decoration of a culture that finally ended up combining Islamic and Christian art by the hand of the best artists.
The Seville Cathedral, on the other hand, would not suffer the same fate in terms of conservation. It would almost completely occupy the old Islamic mosque, one of the largest in the West. On this visit you will be able to see the remains of the courtyard and the minaret of the old mosque, but above all you will walk through what is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. The cathedral is the result of a long process of construction that the Christian kings adapted to the historical development of the arts, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo…
Both buildings have been part of the important history of Spain, so we will introduce you to one of the most glorious periods of Islam, the Reconquest of Ferdinand III, the routes of Christopher Columbus, and many more that you will discover during the 3’30 hours that we propose in our route. We will meet at the Plaza del Triunfo, where we will begin to discuss the Roman antecedents that still remain at the base of the Giralda, the Islamic and Renaissance artistic decoration of the tower, and the almagra-coloured walls of the Cathedral. From this point we will go to the main entrance of the Cathedral, inside, we can discover treasures such as the tombs of numerous Christian kings, the remains of Christopher Columbus, the cathedral treasury or the most gigantic High Altarpiece in Christendom. We will be able to enjoy the views of Seville from the Giralda, one of the highest points of the old town, 104 metres high, which we will have to climb by a system of ramps.
We conclude our visit to the Cathedral in the Patio de los Naranjos, also a testimony to the Islamic period. Next, we will visit the Alcázar, touring Seville’s richest gardens and palaces. You will discover the relationship with royalty, with the Americas and the more than 187 different plant species in its gardens. This tour will allow you to visit the most outstanding places of the Sevillian landscape, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco since 1987.
