What to buy in Cordoba – Spain | Best souvenirs

There is no doubt that the city of Cordoba is a must-see on your trip to Spain. It is a place full of history (a UNESCO world heritage site indeed) flooded with monuments, quaint streets and charming patios. Moreover, the weather is mostly sunny, and the gastronomical offer is excellent.

If you decide to visit this beautiful town, it is quite likely that you want to buy at least one or two souvenirs to bring home to your loved ones. But remember, not all souvenirs are the same. Forget about the traditional T-shirts and fridge magnets and choose something more unique and authentic. We are going to give you a few suggestions for the best souvenirs to buy in Cordoba:

Pottery

Pottery is highly appreciated in Cordoba. The manufacturers from Río Salado, from the municipality of La Rambla, craft their own designs that fuse tradition with modern trends. You can find it everywhere, especially in the many souvenir shops along the narrow streets of the Judería. Everything is local and painted by hand.

Decorative plates

These kind of plates are a success among the national tourists especially, who use them to decorate the walls of patios and balconies. There are all sorts of plates in the market. Some of them are old-style inspired while others have more modern patterns. The Mosque-Cathedral theme is the most recurrent in both cases.

Jewelry

Did you know that Cordoba has some of the finest jewels in the world?

Since the Middle Ages Cordoba has been an outstanding center in terms of silver production, even at a European level.  Currently, more than 1,000 companies with 15,000 professionals work in the jewelry industry at the so-called ‘Parque Joyero de Cordoba’ (Cordoba Jewellery Park-Business Area), where 70% of Spanish jewelry is made and exported around the world.

Oh, and if you want to know more about the silver industry in Cordoba, there is no better place than the School of Jewellery on the Cordoba Jewellery Park. And of course, don’t forget to bring back home a nice necklace, a bracelet or a couple of earrings!

Leather

Leather goods, in particular bags, purses, wallets and belts, are some of the main local specialties in Cordoba. They are still made in handcraft workshops all over town. Other popular leather items include handmade homeware and exquisite Moorish-style prints. You can find them in specialized shops or in the souvenir stores in the Judería.

Food & drink

The most appreciated souvenir by many, food and drink are always a safe bet.

Pedro Ximénez Wines

The Montilla – Moriles region is located in the province of Cordoba, in the center of Andalusia. Here lies a region composed of 15 municipalities in where winemaking dates back to Roman times and which is currently known as “The Empire of Pedro Ximénez”.

The Pedro Ximénez grape thrives here with its perfect viticultural conditions, especially with those cultivated in the Sierra de Montilla and Moriles Alto. The wines produced in the area are delicious and a perfect souvenir from your trip!

Pedroches ham

Our iberic ham is famous worldwide, but not all Spanish hams are the same. Acorn-fed ‘pata negra’ one boasts the highest quality is the most exquisite one.

The acorn-fed ham denomination of origin from the Pedroches Valley, in Cordoba, has some of the best jamones in the whole country. Who wouldn’t want a gift like that?

Cordoba cake

The traditional pie from Cordoba is made of pastry dough and eggs, filled with ‘angel hair squash’ (know as cabello de ángel in Spanish) and covered with sugar and cinnamon. Perfect present for those who have a sweet tooth!
