The best time of the year to visit the Camino del Rey

There are several times of the year to visit this route without any problems. Autumn could be a great time to visit the Caminito del Rey, with September and October being the months with low rainfall and mild, pleasant temperatures of no more than 28 degrees Celsius. However, you should bear in mind that November is the month with the highest rainfall and temperatures, both minimum and maximum, start to drop. So, if you want to make your trip in autumn, we recommend the months of September and October for the reasons we have mentioned above.

If you want to make the trip in winter, you should bear in mind that temperatures are quite cold, although not as cold as in the interior of the Peninsula. What’s more, in December there is abundant rainfall, although this level drops from January onwards. We do not recommend travelling in winter because of the rainfall, as the route may be closed due to rain at some point. If you still want to make the trip during this season, we recommend that you do so in February, when there is less rainfall and temperatures are a little milder.

Spring is one of the most interesting times to travel and make the trip. There is less rainfall than in winter, but in April and May there may be the occasional shower. In terms of weather, temperatures are quite pleasant, averaging 15 to 16 degrees Celsius. The months of April and May are highly recommended to do the route, although take a mackintosh just in case.

Finally, summer tends to be a more difficult time, as everyone wants to go at this time of year because people have more holidays. Entrances to the tour are scarce because of this, which makes things more difficult. However, during the months of July and August the temperatures are quite high, around 30-40º. If you go during this time, we strongly recommend wearing a hat and drinking plenty of water.

There is also June, which is one of the best months to do the trek. It has an optimum temperature that can reach a maximum of 28º. As for rainfall, although it is true that it can have more than in July or August, it is the third month of the year with less rain, so it is also attractive in this respect. If you want to do this tour in summer, we recommend June.

In short, in order of preference we recommend autumn first, then spring and finally June in summer, leaving winter as the last option.
